Early EMDR Intervention protocols; EMDR R-TEP (EMDR Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol) for individuals and EMDR G-TEP (EMDR Group Traumatic Episode Protocol) for groups developed by Elan Shapiro, will be the main targets of the workshop. The aim is getting the participants ready to use both protocols effectively.
Establishing safety and building a therapeutic relationship is the basis of all therapy methods. However, when a mass trauma happens the rules must be more flexible, for instance; even reaching out the people who are in need can be a big problem. In these situations time is precious, victims may be in great numbers, but mental health workers may be few. So we may need a protocol for focusing the recent trauma or a protocol that can be used with groups.
The aim of the workshop is:
- Focusing the basics in the field, immediately after mass trauma.
- Large scale disaster management model
- Focusing one of the Early EMDR Protocols; R-TEP.
- Focusing the basics working within the group and EMDR G-TEP.
- Experiences (do’s and don’ts) from the field
R-TEP Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol
R-TEP is an early EMDR Intervention Protocol developed by Elan Shapiro which is an enhanced protocol contains EMD, recent event protocol and EMDR. R-TEP gives importance to safety and containment and applies the 8 phases of EMDR protocol for Early intervention for recent traumas.
We will cover:
- Rationality of R-TEP
- R-TEP’s background & development of R-TEP
- Other EEI protocols
- R-TEP conceptualisation
- Procedures of R-TEP Protocol
- R-TEP – 8 phases video
EMDR Group – Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP)
This protocol is a simplified adaption of the EMDR R-TEP for use with groups of adults, children and adolescents who had traumatic experiences or life-changing events with on-going consequences that are not necessarily recent.
The course will include the 8 steps of G-TEP and group practice. We will also sharing G-TEP experiences and the details of adapting EMDR G-TEP into different cultural groups, for example; Syrian Refugees, Turkish Airport bombing survivors, security guards, fire victims.
